A Recap: BlogCFC, Windows Live Writer, ScribeFire and Modified XML-RPC Files
Well I was browsing over my WhosOnCFCStats today, as I usually do, just to get a casual glance at the sites referring browsers to me. I have seen a few queries coming from people working on getting WLW working with BlogCFC. I have spent quite a bit of time covering XML-RPC related issues but I suppose a quick recap could not hurt.
I have been using Windows Live Writer as my blog editor for quite some time. I had quite a few problems getting Windows Live Writer working with the stock xmlrpc.cfm file that Ray packages with BlogCFC so I pulled out CFEclipse and my spice weasel and BAM! I kicked it up a notch. (Sorry, I have Futurama on the brain this morning.)
The results have been pretty good so far. Using my modified XML-RPC file allows you to run Windows Live Writer using the MoveableType API, which is much better than the MetaWeblog API in my honest opinion. Mainly I suppose it is because you can use the MT API's split post button in WLW without having to parse out custom markup in the xmlrpc.cfm file looking for BlogCFC <more /> tags to split a post.
Also, the modified XML-RPC files work great with ScribeFire with a few things you must keep in mind. This post covers all the details of getting my modified XML-RPC files working with ScribeFire: http://www.kisdigital.com/index.cfm/2008/3/20/Sorry-for-the-spamming-ColdFusionBloggers-this-morning.
Which brings me to why you would actually need to use the modified XML-RPC files. When trying to pull up post categories and such with the original XML-RPC files the categories would not show up correctly or not at all. Some of the features available in Windows Live Writer MoveableType API were not implemented, which I went ahead and supported.
If you are having some problems with Windows Live Writer or ScribeFire working on your BlogCFC installation I have my modified XML-RPC files available in my download section. Feel free to check it out and if you have any technical issues, I am always happy to help out a fellow BlogCFC user.
